To submit an A.L.E.R.T.:
- Log in to Brightspace and click the A.L.E.R.T. button in your navigation bar to open A.L.E.R.T.
- Enter the student number for the student you want to refer, and then click Next to see the A.L.E.R.T. Form.
- At the top of the screen, you can see the student’s first and last name to verify you entered to correct student number.
- Enter the course code for the relevant course.
Note: For consistency and ease of tracking, you need to enter the actual course code, consisting of either 7 or 8 digits (e.g. CST8300 or ENL1813T). A.L.E.R.T. will not accept the course name.
- Select the reason or reasons for concern. The Student Success Specialist will be able to see that all the reasons you select are associated with the same referral.
Tip: If you’re unsure which reasons apply, you can click on the information button (small ‘I’) beside each reason for concern to see a short description.
- Once you have selected a reason, add a comment(s) to explain the issue. This is where you can be more specific about the reason for concern (e.g. a technology issue could be that the student struggles with Brightspace or their laptop broke.)
- When you finish filling out the form, click Next.
- Review the summary of your A.L.E.R.T. If you want to make changes, click Previous to go back to the previous screen. If no changes are needed, click Next again to submit and then click Finish.
- You will now see the starting screen again. You can start a new A.L.E.R.T. for a different student if needed, or you can close the tab to exit.
That is the process for using A.L.E.R.T. to refer at-risk students to their Student Success Specialist.
The Student Success Specialist will now receive your A.L.E.R.T.
